Dr. Friederike Stolzenburg

started her work in the field of intellectual property at the “Institut für Genbiologische Forschung”, Berlin, which was specialized in plant biotechnology, where she worked from 1993 to 1995 and dealt with patent applications. She joined VOSSIUS & PARTNER in 1995 and she was admitted to practice as a European Patent Attorney in 1997, and as a German Patent Attorney (Patentanwalt) and European Trademark Attorney in 1999. Dr. Stolzenburg has been a partner in the firm of VOSSIUS & PARTNER since 2000.

The main focus of her work as a patent attorney is in the field of prosecution, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trademark office (GPTO) as well as nullity proceedings before the Federal patent Court. Moreover, she represents clients in infringement proceedings. She also has expertise in establishing opinions on validity of patents/patent applications and on freedom-to-operate, as well as in preparing due diligence opinions.

Dr. Stolzenburg is in particular experienced in the field of patenting nucleic acid molecules, proteins and antibodies, inventions in the field of plant biotechnology, fermentation and the development of new metabolic pathways. Her clients are active, inter alia, in the field of plant biotechnology, pharmacy and the production of hydrocarbons in microorganism. Her clients include multinational companies, start-up companies as well as research institutes.

Dr. Stolzenburg is regulary involved in interdisciplinary teams and, in particular, often cooperates with partners from the technical and engineering department both for prosecution and opposition cases relating to inventions of the interface between biology/biochemistry and physics/engineering/IT.

Dr. Stolzenburg studied biology at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg with an emphasis on biochemistry, genetics, plant physiology and mathematics. She received her doctorate at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg in the field of DNA replication in mammalian cells. She was then awarded a research fellowship sponsored by the European Community at the "Service de Biochimie et Génétique Moléculaire" in the Centre D'Etudes de Saclay in Paris in the field of RNA polymerases of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
