Dr. Ulrich Sentner
studied biology at the Universities of Konstanz and Bayreuth with a main emphasis on biochemistry, genetics and plant physiology. For his dissertation at the University of Bayreuth, he investigated effects of suppressor proteins of the wheat streak mosaic virus on gene silencing in transgenic wheat. For this research, he produced transgenic wheat at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico City. Dr. Sentner’s dissertation research focused on increasing the expression of transgenes using viral proteins and investigating the underlying mechanism of the increase. Dr. Sentner joined VOSSIUS & PARTNER in 2007. He was admitted to practice as a European Patent Attorney in 2011 and as a German Patent Attorney in 2017.
Dr. Sentner has been involved in developing IP filing strategies for universities and start-up companies. He therefore has extensive experience in pre-grant proceedings (including preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications) and post-grant proceedings before the EPO. Although most of his work has been in the biotechnology field focussing on antibodies, stem cell technology, plant biotechnology, and disease markers, he has also been engaged to defend patents involving formulations and dosing regimes. Dr. Sentner has also experience in managing global portfolios of patent applications. As a result, he has a working knowledge of patentability requirements and procedures outside Europe, especially in the United States, Japan and China.
