Dr. Johann Pitz
has been partner of the law firm Vossius & Partner in Munich since 2001. With his background of many years of practice as patent litigator before German civil courts, the Federal Patent Court, the European Patent Office and the Federal Supreme Court, he established the legal patent litigation department of the firm. He has been attorney-at-law since 1991 and represents German as well as international clients in patent litigation, invalidation and opposition proceedings in specially tailored teams with European Patent Attorneys qualified in all relevant technical fields. Johann has handled a number of cross-border proceedings and important infringement cases concerning “Erythropoietin and clinical trials”, “medical devices”, “Paroxetine“, “Taxol”, “coffee pads and contributory infringement” and “MPEG standards and FRAND defence”.
Johann Pitz is member of the GRUR Expert Committee, the IBA, AIPPI, AIPLA, VPP, and the Union-IP Litigation Commission. He is a regular speaker on IP conferences in Germany and abroad and author or co-author of numerous publications concerning patent enforcement, including Beck's practitioner handbook “Patent Litigation in Germany, Japan and the United States” and the Patent law commentary Fitzner/Lutz/Bodewig.
Before his admission to the Bar he passed his Second State Examination in Munich and started as research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law where he completed his studies with a Ph.D. (Dr. iur.) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ernst Karl Pakuscher, President (Ret.) of the Federal Patent Court.
