joined the firm of VOSSIUS & PARTNER as an Attorney-at-Law in October 2013. He specializes in European Trade Mark Law. He was Presiding Judge of a Trade Mark Senate at the German Federal Patent Court in Munich from 2008 to 2013 and Member of the Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante from 1997 to 2007. From 1995 to 1997, he worked as a scientific assistant with the Patent Senate of the German Federal Supreme Court in Karlsruhe. Since 1991 he has been working as a Judge at the German Federal Patent Court, and previously, since 1976, in various positions including as State Prosecutor and Judge at the Bavarian Courts, inter alia at the Munich Regional Court II as Vice Chairman of one of the Chambers of Commerce.
Achim was a lecturer at the University of Düsseldorf from 2007 to 2017 and now lectures at several universities throughout Germany and in other countries. Furthermore, he regularly teaches at Intellectual Property conferences and supervises qualification and formation of lawyers and patent attorneys.
In addition to numerous publications in legal journals, Achim is the author of “The New Union Trade Mark” (Carl Heymanns, Cologne, 2nd edition, 2016), co-author of the “Manual of Trade Mark Practice” (CH Beck, Munich, 3rd edition, 2016), co-editor and co-author of the “Heidelberg Commentary on Trade Mark Law” (CF Müller, Heidelberg, 3rd edition, 2014) as well as co-author of the “Practice Handbook of Intellectual Property and Competition Law” (Nomos, Baden-Baden, 2011), co-editor and co-author of the liber amicorum ”50 years of Federal Patent Court” (Carl Heymanns, Cologne, 2011) and co-author of the PAVIS PROMA internet file “Trade Mark Decisions FPC, EUIPO, FCJ, EGC, ECJ” (continuously updated since 1999).
He is a member of the Committee of Experts on Competition and Trademark Law of GRUR (German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property).
